We're planning on broadcasting 24/7 for 3 days at Transformus; music, news, announcements, and interviews. We need to find an affordable mountainous broadcast solution (probably just transmitter and antenna?). Likely only 1 mile necessary, does 25 watts sound right? It needs to be portable, easy to deal with, and friendly (rca, 1/4, or 1/8 inch) inputs.
i would love to hear what you think, suggestions for purchases, and problems we should look to encounter.
Thanks in advance,
Scott...

Re: FM transmission questions
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 4:01 AMFor a one mile radius, 25 watts sounds excessive. I would try 5-10 and get it as close to the peak of one of your mountains as possible. -

Re: FM transmission questions
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 7:55 AMThat, I don't know. I retired as a free radio operator over a decade ago and have since gotten into ham radio.
I'm basing my 5-10W assumption based on the my experiences with handheld ham radios. I can get a mile pretty consistently at 1W, however, you will want a stronger signal because broadcast FM is wider-bandwidth than ham FM, and the tolerance for static will be lower than it is in ham radio.
